Vien is an aspiring scholar of civic tech and learning. He is a PhD candidate in Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy (SESP), where he is writing a book about civic tech in Chicago that will come out in 2026-7. As an educator, Vien is designing pathways to support Chicago-based university students to engage in technology design and politics to address personally meaningful issues of city life. Before Vien came to Chicago he lived in Philly (2015-2020) where he worked for education non-profits, schools, and community centers to support disabled youth’s engagement in STEM and computing. In his free time Vien enjoys reading and cooking.
