#139 Translating Data into Cinema

Documentary filmmakers Ben Kolak and Brian Ashby of Scrappers Film Group will talk about the process of directing the PBS DIGITAL STUDIOS / WTTW Channel 11 documentary web series Central Standard: On Education.

Ben and Brian will go over how they used educational and census metrics to help tell the story of five 8th graders across Chicagoland attempting to get into the top selective enrollment high schools as a way to provide a more holistic picture of the many, often unquantifiable factors responsible for disparities in public education.

Some of you may remember Ben and Brian - they did a short documentary on the Chi Hack Night for The Grid in 2013.
