Benjamin Sugar (previously at hack night) will give brief introduction to the Public Lab; an international open source community of civic scientists using inexpensive DIY techniques to democratize the monitoring of environmental impacts.

Next, Olga Bautista, activist and 10th Ward aldermanic candidate, will discuss how a coalition of community organizations and area residents employed an aerial balloon mapping kit to help them oust open air petcoke facilities from of their neighborhood in Chicago’s Southeast side.
