#286 ProPublica Illinois: The Tax Divide
In 2017, ProPublica Illinois and the Chicago Tribune published The Tax Divide, a four-part series examining deep inequities in the Cook County’s property tax assessments system.
The system, which touches every family in the county, was known to be highly regressive, but reporters found that the assessor’s office ignored the problem and misled the public.
ProPublica Illinois reporters Jason Grotto and Sandhya Kambhampati will discuss the stories, their methodology and the fallout from the series.
RSVP required Braintree now requires all attendees to RSVP beforehand. Walk-ins will not be allowed!
ASL This event will have an American Sign Language interpreter.
Food Food and drinks will be provided. We encourage attendees to bring their own water bottles to reduce waste.
