#311 Tom Schenk Jr., Former Chief Data Officer, City of Chicago

Last month, Chicago’s second Chief Data Officer, Tom Schenk Jr., left after serving 5 1/2 years. Tom launched Chicago’s advanced analytics team, expanded and redesigned the data portal, launched a network of CDOs, reformed city technology practices, helped lead Chicago’s civic tech community, and launched dozens on innovative programs and services. In 2018, he was named a top Doer, Dreamer & Driver by Government Technology magazine.

Tom will share the stories from the past 5 years to celebrate the accomplishments and share where there is still opportunity for improvement in the future. He will go beyond the projects themselves and explore the underlying motivations and philosophy that drove Chicago’s data team.
