#529 In-person and Online: StateScoop: How government technology news could restore faith in media

This event will be in person, but you can also tune in via our usual livestream. Doors open at 6pm. The livestream and announcements will start around 6:30pm CDT.

In-person: TeamWorking, 20 N Upper Wacker Drive, 12th Floor, Chicago IL. Enter the Civic Opera Building using the entrance in the middle of the block between Washington and Madison streets. Take the elevators to the 12th floor.

Only 34 percent of Americans trust the mass media to report the news “fully, accurately and fairly,” according to a Gallup poll last year. Without trust in media, government, industry and activists alike lose a primary communication channel, leaving a vacuum in the market for reliable and trustworthy updates on communities and what’s happening around you.

Some modern business-to-business media outlets, though, provide a roadmap to bring media back to basics. Through a community, people and visibility-focused approach, industry media can offer government, industry, nonprofits, activists and more the chance to tell stories to a wider audience — and work collectively together to better communities.

Join Jake Williams, vice president of content and community of StateScoop.com — an online news website that covers the intersection of state and local government and technology — for an overview on how media is serving the govtech landscape. He’ll explain StateScoop’s editorial philosophy that prioritizes people and community, while also holding elected and government officials accountable. In addition, he’ll explain why reframing media with a community-first mindset can help uplift communities and inspire collaboration.

RSVP In-person attendees should RSVP beforehand. As occupancy limits permit, walk-ins will be allowed to enter.

Vaccination required In order to keep attendees safe, we will be requiring proof of vaccination at the door. A physical vaccine cards or picture of one will be accepted. If you are not vaccinated, you can tune in to the livestream.

Masks required Attendees will be required to wear a mask. We will provide additional masks if you forget yours.

There will be food! We will be serving chicken, steak and veggie tacos from Atolito’s Tacos!
