#533 In-person and Online: Democratize Journalism Everywhere - City Bureau’s Documenters Network

This event will be in person, but you can also tune in via our usual livestream. Doors open at 6pm. The livestream and announcements will start around 6:30pm CDT.

In-person: TeamWorking, 20 N Upper Wacker Drive, 12th Floor, Chicago IL. Enter the Civic Opera Building using the entrance in the middle of the block between Washington and Madison streets. Take the elevators to the 12th floor.

City Bureau’s Documenters Network trains and pays local residents to attend and annotate government meetings, turning the knowledge, relationships, and capacity of local residents into a powerful community information resource. The Documenters Network dramatically increases local journalism capacity while simultaneously creating points of access for anyone to participate in the process of producing civic media.

Last summer, City Bureau received the Stronger Democracy award to expand the Documenters Network across the U.S. Launched in 2015 in Chicago, the Network now comprises six Documenters sites in addition to Chicago, in Cleveland, Detroit, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Omaha, and Fresno. Two new sites are launching Documenters programs this month and more are joining later in the year.

The Documenters Network creates participatory civic infrastructure by developing and resourcing Documenters sites. The organizations that operate Documenters sites create impact in their communities that complements and parallels City Bureau’s work in Chicago, while feeding learnings back into the network. Join the discussion to learn more about the growing Documenters Network and the tools and resources supporting it.

RSVP In-person attendees should RSVP beforehand. As occupancy limits permit, walk-ins will be allowed to enter.

Vaccination required In order to keep attendees safe, we will be requiring proof of vaccination at the door. A physical vaccine cards or picture of one will be accepted. If you are not vaccinated, you can tune in to the livestream.

Masks required Attendees will be required to wear a mask. We will provide additional masks if you forget yours.

There will be food! We will be serving chicken, steak and veggie tacos from Atolito’s Tacos!
