#635 Online: The Illinois Assistive Technology Program
The Illinois Assistive Technology Program (IATP) is a statewide nonprofit agency funded by state and federal grants that has been responsible for implementing the federal Assistive Technology Act since 1989.
IATP promotes the availability of assistive technology (AT) devices and services for people with disabilities and other health conditions.
IATP offers person-centered services to all people with disabilities in the state of Illinois, their families, service providers, state agencies, private industry, educators, and other interested individuals, regardless of age or income.
IATP AT Act Activities:
- AT Demonstration Center (Includes a Smart Home Display)
- AT Device Loan
- AT Reuse
- State Financing Activities (AT Makers; Tech Kitchen and Smart Home)
- AT Training Educational Activities
- Technical Assistance
- Information and Assistance & IEP/504 AT Support
- Public Awareness and Outreach
Other Contracted Services:
- Illinois CARE Connections (ICC) (Illinois Department on Aging) serves individuals aged 60 and older who are most likely to be socially isolated or need AT/Durable medical equipment to remain in their homes
- AT Device Loan and assistive technology (AT) and alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) Evaluations for students 3-22 years of age (Illinois State Board of Education)
- AT & Home Modification Evaluations to address vocational and independent living needs (Illinois Department of Human Services – Division of Rehabilitation Services)
- Assists individuals receiving SSI and SSDI make informed decisions about how employment will affect their benefits. Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (Social Security Administration)
