In June 2025, Derek Eder was appointed to be a Trustee for the Village of Oak Park, a suburb west of Chicago with 54,000 residents known for being ethnically diverse and socially liberal.

Derek will talk about what is involved in being a local legislator, the lessons he’s learned in his first 10 months, and share how his experience with Chi Hack Night and civic technology has prepared him and translated into policymaking.
